What are T Level Resource Improvement Projects (TRIPs)?

TRIPs are an opportunity for providers and other stakeholders to work together to produce resources that will support the planning and delivery of T Levels. 

TRIPs are suitable for teachers, managers, and specialist staff and can also benefit from the involvement of wider stakeholders such as employers, Awarding Organisations and Higher Education Institutions. 

TRIPs are available as pre-agreed projects that will lead to the development of resources to support teaching, learning, and assessment for T Levels.

Providers involved in the delivery of T Levels are eligible to apply. Projects are funded to support staff capacity.

What's involved

The application window has now closed.

As an advisor, you’ll review technical content aligned to a specific T Level and brief. This may include core content, core skills or occupational specialism materials.

You’ll be part of a collaborative, face-to-face workshop in London on Tuesday 24 February 2026 (10:30-16:00), where you’ll join other advisors from across the country to discuss findings and make joint recommendations to improve TRIP outputs.

Funding

Successful applicants will receive £1,000, which is to cover:

  • Review of TRIP resources prior to the workshop
  • Attendance and contribution at the workshop
  • Travel expenses

Funding is available only to ESFA-funded organisations and will be paid upon completion of all activities.

Timeline

  • Applications open: Monday 3 November 2025
  • Deadline to apply: Monday 24 November 2025
  • Outcome notifications: w/c 1 December 2025
  • Resources sent for review: w/c 9 February 2026
  • Workshop date: Tuesday 24 February 2026

Brief: This T Level Resource Improvement Project (TRIP) has produced a range of learning materials, developed by an experienced T Level provider. These learning materials will support providers to monitor learner progress and support learners to develop their understanding of the Core Content of the T Level in Accounting.

The TRIP focusses on formative assessment of learners understanding of Core Content, particularly in relation to:

AO2 – Apply knowledge and understanding of contexts, concepts, theories and principles to different situations and contexts.
AO3 – Analyse and evaluate information and issues related to contexts, concepts, theories and principles to make informed judgements.

There are 30 questions included in this resource: 20 AO2 questions and 10 AO3 questions. The questions address the following Core Content Areas:

  • Core Content 3: Working in the agriculture, environmental and animal care sector.

Developing formative assessment materials for core exam content

A learner workbook, which includes:

  • nine activities to develop assessment and examination practices
  • 20 assessment objective 2 (AO2) questions and a space for learners to identify how their answer is applied
  • 10 AO3 questions.

A tutor guide with guidance about the nine developmental activities, including:

  • suggested timings
  • suggested delivery plan
  • suggested recap activity

Brief: A package of employer-informed materials to support students to develop the required scientific knowledge and understanding. The materials developed consist of:

To produce a high-quality, accessible, and relevant employer informed case study which combines core and occupational specialism content to help students to develop the required knowledge understanding and skills to successfully achieve the Management and Administration T Level.

Schemes for Skills – Co-designed schemes of learning for the Construction Industry

Organisations involved:  Lakes College

Brief: This project was aimed at improving teaching practice for the delivery of T Levels through the creation and development of high-quality schemes of learning to support a holistic approach to delivery informed and co-created through employer input. This will lead to improved teaching, learning and assessment (TLA) practice for the design, surveying and planning T Level. The focus surrounded the core content with the interspersion of occupational specialism aspects. The resources created could also benefit the onsite construction route due to its relevance, transferability and sharing of best TLA practice across pathways.

Brief: This project produced a short online course providing practitioners with a simple introduction to using immersive technologies within an education setting. As well as videos, which can be used in the curriculum delivery of construction T Levels, either with VR headsets or in 2D.

Brief: This project produced five mini schemes of work, approved by employers and a generic design ‘toolkit’ for project-based learning, which contains employer approved resources covering; Digital Support Services T Level route core element 4, 5.2 and element 4 linked to programming aligned to the Design and Production T Level. A teacher guide was also created to provide an overview of the schemes and resources and an explanation of prior learning needed before delivery of the schemes/resources.

Developing a framework for learning and guidance materials to develop core skills required for the T Level Employer Set Project

Organisations involved: Leicester College

Published date: January 2024

Brief: This resource has three sections:

Framework for learning: This covers 21.5 hours of learning and presents an approach to scaffolding and sequencing the development of oral communication skills, with a focus on speaking. Note that additional time may be required to fully develop the necessary skills. The aim is not to deliver the learning hours consecutively, but to intersperse them in lessons, which allows students to practise and further develop the skill before they move on to the next stage of the development sequence.

Lesson plans: These lessons are contextualised to engineering and manufacturing and core knowledge content. However, providers can amend these to include different contexts based on the core sequencing. In addition, there is a slide deck that providers can use to support delivery of the lessons as indicated in the lesson plans.

Note: There is a separate slide deck that teachers can use with the lessons, in addition to separate videos also designed for use with the lessons.

Guidance for students: The guidance document aims to support students as they prepare for their ESP assessment. It includes some general information about the ESP assessment, and also includes specific information regarding the application of oral communication skills.

Brief: The Motor Vehicle industry is one of the UK’s major employers. In 2020 there are over 1 million workers employed directly and in the wider sector. The launch of Engineering and Manufacturing T Levels in September 2022 provides a further opportunity for FE learners to progress into the world of motor vehicle maintenance, installation, and repair – including electric and hybrid vehicles. This project focuses on developing resources to support the effective implementation of the motor vehicle occupational specialism.

Brief: The key objective of this project was to begin to explore the Industry Placement options for Digital T Level learners within the commercial and business side of the football industry. As a result, the following guide was created containing key knowledge, skills, behaviours, and occupational competencies required to work in this industry.

The resource provides a guide for employers and providers and outlines some exemplar activities to support the hosting of industry placements for football organisations. It is designed to be used by football employers as well as provider employer engagement teams, to help identify activities and understand how best to engage with T level learners, and to support talent pipelines for their future workforce, whilst ensuring high quality and relevant placement provisions can be sourced and sustained.

Brief:

  • learner workbook which includes 12 activities to develop assessment and examination practices, 20 AO2 questions, including the question and a space for learners to identify how their answer is applied and 10 AO3 questions
  • teacher guide which includes suggested timing, delivery plan and recap activity as well as an answer guide where appropriate
  • 20 AO2 and 10 AO3 questions, model answers, guidance as to how learners should apply their answer to the context or scenario, suggested content that can also be referred to in their answer and guidance regarding generic responses to questions.

Brief: The TRIP partners involved in this project recognised a need for current industry-standard materials to prepare learners for placements and to contextualise their understanding of the core curriculum (section A) prior to experiencing a “real” laboratory setting. Developing Employment Competency

Organisations involved: Middlesbrough College, Darlington College, Southport College, Manchester College, Nelson & Colne College

Brief: This project’s aim was to improve teaching practice within T Levels by preparing learners for the progressive development of employment skills and workplace behaviours. The project generated a range of both route specific and non-specific teaching and learning resources, which sought to embed employers views in the design of activities. These activities enabled learner development of English, mathematical and digital literacies and enhanced collaboration skills through problem based learning.

Holistic planning and delivery

Organisations involved: Hopwood Hall College

Brief: This project produced resources to enable a holistic approach to delivery of the Health T Level. Holistic assessments throughout the resources mean that different areas of the specification are covered in a single task, which supports the structure of assessment for T Levels. Development of wider skills, such as digital, presentation and communication skills, was incorporated in the resource development. The resources produced are easily adaptable, can be used in a range of ways and can be supplemented, which will support different teaching styles and learner needs.

Pan Leeds Health T Level

Organisations involved: Leeds City College

Brief: The pan-Leeds Health TRIP set out to create a citywide approach to the rollout of T Levels in Leeds. This has been achieved by ensuring that employers across the healthcare sector have been involved in the design and implementation of the Health T Level. Through this engagement, educational and clinical practitioners have been able to discuss, share good practice and find workable solutions to align the qualification and industry placements to collective workforce planning that integrates the Health T Level into citywide pathways to health and care careers.

Partnership approaches to developing effective Health and Nursing T Level placements

Organisations involved: Havant and South Downs College, Abingdon and Witney College, Isle of Wight College and Newbury College

Brief: This project brought together four FE Colleges, all struggling to engage the required number of NHS industry placements. The project focused on developing mirrored training resources, enabling local teaching practice to deliver training in the exact operating procedures, on precise assessment methods used locally prior to engagement on placement, enabling students to ‘hit the ground running’ and add value from day one.

Passport to Placement toolkit for Health T Level

Organisations involved: Bolton

Brief: This project will improve teaching practice for the delivery of T-Levels through the creation, development and evaluation of an employer informed and endorsed passport to placement ‘tool-kit’ for T Level practitioners.

Each partner will engage with health and social care employers in their area and use draft matrix as a baseline for employers to identify skills, behaviors and attributes needed for a learner to succeed in placement. Standard statements and schemes of learning will be divided between partners and will be presented to trust partners for final amendment. A working group will steer the project.

Organisation involved: East Norfolk Multi Academy Trust

Brief: This T Level Resource Improvement Project (TRIP) has produced a range of learning materials, developed by an experienced T Level provider. These learning materials will support providers to monitor learner progress and support learners to develop their understanding of the Core Content of the T Level in Accounting.

The TRIP focusses on formative assessment of learners understanding of Core Content, particularly in relation to:

AO2 – Apply knowledge and understanding of contexts, concepts, theories and principles to different situations and contexts.
AO3 – Analyse and evaluate information and issues related to contexts, concepts, theories and principles to make informed judgements.

There are 30 questions included in this resource: 20 AO2 questions and 10 AO3 questions. The questions address the following Core Content Areas:

  • Core Content area 4: Professionalism and ethics / equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Core Content area 13: Fundamentals of financial accounting 2.
