Understanding T Levels and the T Level Foundation Year

Our popular Understanding T Levels course (UTL) is tailored to different roles, and provides an initial introduction for all those planning, delivering or supporting T Levels. The course includes learning activities, formative assessment tools, and support. 

UTL is a mixture of online on-demand and live online/face-to-face courses. We recommend you complete the online on-demand course first at a time that suits you. This will ensure you are prepared for the live online/face-to-face course and will help you get the most from your CPD activity.

This introductory course is for teachers, managers and support staff preparing for the delivery of T Levels. This course will help you to explore the structure of T Levels, consider the factors that makes T Levels a success and will signpost an extensive range of support available when planning next steps.

In-house training can be facilitated for your team as a group, either face-to-face or virtually. Contact your Area Relationship and Development Lead for more information. 

T Levels: What are they and who are they for? is an introductory course for KS3, KS4 and KS5 teaching and learner support staff in schools, academies, and UTCs and covers all the essentials about T Levels. You will find out about T Level structure, content and delivery demands and the wider context of technical education policy. Packed with useful information, it will help you have informed discussions with learners about T Levels.

This course is designed to support TLFY providers and organisations that are considering TLFY delivery. It provides a general introduction to the structure and purpose of the TLFY, before exploring some key considerations for design, planning, delivery and employer engagement. Complete this course at your own pace via the online learning platform (3 guided learning hours).

The Education Training Foundation (ETF) is pleased to offer in-house delivery on a range of T Level Professional Development (TLPD) courses for groups of practitioners.  

Developed by ETF and funded by the Department for Education (DfE), these courses are designed to support Further Education (FE) and Skills providers who are delivering or preparing to deliver T Levels across a range of routes and contexts. 

They are led by Delivery Partners who can share valuable insights based on their extensive knowledge and delivery experience.

The following courses are currently available for in-house delivery: 

  • Understanding T Levels for the Post-16 Sector (1.5 hours)
  • T Levels: What are they and who are they for? (1.5 hours)

Depending on your needs, you can choose: 

  • in-person delivery at your organisation (a minimum of 10 attendees)
  • virtual delivery via Zoom (a minimum of 10 attendees) 

Participants do not need to be employed by the same provider – so you are welcome to join a cohort, or partner with friendly providers.
